VIDEOTIVOLI & NORDIC AND BALTIC COUNTRIES’ KIDS FOR KIDS 9. - 14.3.2010

VIDEOTIVOLI – A FILM FEAST

KFK main prize goes to Norway – the Tampere region gets its share, too

The seventh Videotivoli festival and the third Nordic and Baltic Kids for Kids film competition exceeded all expectations. The screenings, workshops and the exhibition attracted almost 2500 participants.

The three-day film workshop at the North Hervanta School was a success. The workshop was held by Vahid Vahed, who was born in Iran and now works in Australia. Thirteen children attended the workshop and they made two films: The First Journey and New School.

The Danish Animation House coordinator, Annemette Karpen, held two workshops in Amuri School. The workshops approached animation through the kids’ own ideas and storyboards.

The Swedish Academy Award nominee, Patrik Eklund, held a master class in the Swedish Coeducational School of Tampere. The master class examined the process of making an animated film through the director’s own work and a film made by the children themselves, “Väska”.

The theme of this year’s Videotivoli was colourful Mexico. Mexico could be seen and heard in the delightful special screening and the exhibition presenting the process of animation and Mexican culture. La Matatena from Mexico City was the organisation behind the exhibition.

People from further areas attended the Nordic and Baltic KFK screenings, for example Russia and the Netherlands. Especially the screenings for nursery and primary school kids at Tullikamari (the Old Customs House) had an enthusiastic welcome and were applauded heartily by a full house.

The prestigious KFK jury of five (Mika Mustikkamäki, Veera Perttula, Riku Niemelä, Kaisu Sahamies and Anna Suonsyrjä) had a difficult choice to make between the high quality competition works. Here are the jury’s verdicts:
