2004
Pirkanmaa Film Centre arranged the first Videotivoli festival in 2004, which was the theme year of children’s culture. The first Videotivoli was successful as we received 400 film entries from around the world. During the festival hundred films from 26 different countries could be seen on screen.
More than half of the entries were different kinds of animations and the other big share of films were fictions. Among those 400 film entries there were also documentaries, music videos and informational strokes. Children had made some of the films independently, but most of them were made in schools and other organizations with children. An interesting share of films was imaginative fairytales and dealing with serious social issues. The films has given us glimpse of everyday life in different countries and cultures and also outlined a discussion on children’s rights. In addition to child audience, plenty of different kinds of educationists working with children have participated our festival.
Along with the first Videotivoli we also arranged a media educational seminar. Workshop leaders outlined the discussions using their personal experience and own projects with children as examples. Issues processed in workshops were domestic violence, AIDS, and homeless children among others.
